The linkdip Name

One day I was driving my 5 year-old son and 11 year-old daughter to school when my son declared:

“Dad, she is being a bucket dipper!”

And I couldn’t help but think that if they really do teach you everything you need to know in Kindergarden, then it was possible to make the web a better place by using these same principles.

The concept of bucket dipping is simple really: be sure to put more in than you plan on taking out.

The general concept behind linkdip is that if you want to improve the rankings and traffic to your website, you need to first start helping other people using the simple principles that they will in turn help you with.

  • If their site is worth of linking to, link to it.
  • If their blog post is worth “liking” because you “like” it, then “like” it.
  • If someone writes something worth “Sphinning”, then “Sphinn” it.

And by adding up your little bit of effort by dipping all of those links, likes, Sphinns, Diggs and whatever else — you are helping to make the web a better place.

And once you have actually put the effort and time into helping make the web a better place by linking, liking, Sphinning, Tweeting and Digging the things you choose – people will start doing the same for you.

Bucket dipping.

Even the kids in kindergarten know that it just isn’t cool to take out more than you put in.
